A safe relaxed place to have your procedure.

Auckland Day Surgery Centre is a purpose-built day surgery facility in Newmarket. Your procedure happens here, and you go home the same day.

What happens, and when

Most people are at the centre for about half a day. Your surgeon will tell you what to expect for your procedure.

  • 01

    Admission

You are greeted at reception and guided to the admission area. A member of the admissions team explains what happens next.

  • 02

    Theatre

Your surgeon and the anaesthetic team are with you in theatre for the procedure itself.

  • 03

    Recovery

You move to the recovery area, where the recovery room team looks after you until you are ready for discharge.

  • 04

    Home

You go home the same day, once the nurse is satisfied you are ready to leave.

There are three anaesthetic options

  • Intravenous sedation

Also called twilight sedation. You stay deeply relaxed and breathing on your own, and most people remember very little.

  • Target controlled infusion

An advanced form of intravenous sedation. A pump holds the sedative at a steady level and adjusts it as your procedure goes on.

    Your anaesthetic →

  • General anaesthetic

You are completely asleep for the procedure. You may go home the same day or stay overnight, depending on it.

Sedation and general anaesthesia at the centre are given and monitored by a specialist anaesthetist. Whichever option you have, your surgeon also numbs the surgical area with local anaesthetic.

How the centre is set up

  • The theatres

The centre is purpose-built for day surgery. The operating theatres hold modern surgical and anaesthetic equipment.

  • The team with you

Your surgeon works alongside a specialist anaesthetist and registered nurses. You are monitored continuously through the procedure on hospital-grade equipment.

  • The recovery suite

After your procedure you move to the recovery suite. The nursing team monitors you there until you are ready for discharge.
